Fresh captain to face pirates on freed vessel

The recently released German vessel, the ‘Hansa Stavanger’ arrives at the Kenyan port of Mombasa after having been held several months by pirates
When German container ship the Hansa Stavanger docked in the Kenyan port of Mombasa on Saturday, it was smiles all round.

Kenya blocks Ugandans at Mombasa port

Kenya Revenue Authority, the agency that collects taxes on behalf of the Kenya government, has rejected a licence application by a company that was appointed by the Uganda government to operate an inland car port at Mombasa, citing “excess capacity” provided by similar facilities at the coastal town.

Imported duplicate goods to face ban

The Uganda government is considering banning the importation of goods currently produced by local industries.

This comes a month after the Uganda Manufacturers Association called for the banning of goods already manufactured in the country.
The Trade and Industry Ministry says importing goods that Uganda’s manufacturing sector produces would indirectly suffocate the country’s industrial growth.
